I'm afraid that once again it all comes down to money. Purpose of the health care is to reduce of suffering patients and complete or partial removal of its causes. This requires funding for research on the introduction of new drugs and medical procedures, but it is the role of the state (supposedly the best doctors are in France). The introduction of euthanasia can be used by incompetent governments (there is no shortage of such, vide casus Taro Aso, Japan's finance minister) to looking for savings the cost of the health and life of citizens.
If Mr. Amis wants to drink martinis in "euthanasia booths" designed by himself, he not has to announce these revelations to the entire world (let he remember about the medal).
